Saab's Deployable CTC is an instrumented training system, enabling the military to train on home bases and rapidly deploy worldwide for any training mission. The system is modular and scaleable to support exercises of all types and all levels. It supports live force-on-force collective training in open and urban environments and is flexible for use from squad/section and platoon level right up to Brigade Combat Team level.
Saab engineers assist in the site survey of each new training area to determine the best location for radio coverage. The Portable Base Station (PBS) trailer is towed to the site, the antenna erected, and the onboard generator started-up for self-contained power. When the maneuver box is large, additional PBSs can be used and linked together by microwave communication.
Player systems are issued to soldiers and vehicles while the order of battle is prepared for use in the Exercise Command and Control (EXCON) node. The EXCON node Utilizes commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) desktop or laptop computers to run Saab's WinExcon ExPERT exercise control and after-action-review (AAR) software. The master node is typically networked to other nodes to provide additional EXCON and tactical analyst work stations. In most cases, the PBS setup, player kit issue, exercise preparation, and AAR tent set-up is completed within a day.
